STRONGER has published its State Review Report of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Air Pollution Control Division’s (APCD) oil and gas air quality program. The Air Quality Review is the third State Review for Colorado, following the state’s Initial Review in 1996 and Hydraulic Fracturing Review in 2011.
In September 2017, a Review Team representing state, environmental, and industry stakeholders traveled to Denver, CO to conduct the in-state interview portion of the Review with APCD staff. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards provided an Official Observer for the Review.
The Report reflects the exceptional quality of the APCD’s oil and gas program, which meets all of STRONGER’s Guidelines criteria for air quality. The Report also identifies a serious, looming budget shortfall that will require legislative action to address. STRONGER urges the Colorado General Assembly to take swift and effective action to ensure that the APCD is adequately funded to carry on its important work, which is critical to protecting the health of Colorado’s citizens and ensuring the continued growth of the state’s economy.
