The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy (DMME) has volunteered for a STRONGER Follow-Up State Review. Virginia’s Initial Review took place in 2004. Since that time, STRONGER has made several updates to the Guidelines, and Virginia has made changes to its program. The Follow-Up Review will include all Guidelines topics from the Initial Review, as well as new topics such as Hydraulic Fracturing, Air Quality, and Reused and Recycled Fluids.
Furthermore, for the first time, STRONGER is partnering with the StatesFirst Initiative to conduct a State Review coupled with a StatesFirst Regulatory Consultation. The Consultation will focus on achieving outcomes that satisfy the recommendations from the STRONGER Report. This joint effort will provide Virginia with a wealth of knowledge and resources to achieve their environmental regulatory goals, and demonstrate a model of regulatory assessment and continuous improvement for other states to follow.
